Zamboanga City hosts PRISAA’s return

Zamboanga City served as the comeback hosting city as the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) resumed its yearly National Games last July 13-18, 2023 after three years of hiatus since the pandemic with the theme “PRISAA: Enhancing Sports Excellence among Filipino Youth.”

Catering to more than 6,000 participants coming from 437 schools, universities, and colleges across the country, the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex was the venue for the said national games.

Region VI – Western Visayas emerged victorious as the overall champion, bagging 177 (96 gold, 36 solver, and 45 bronze) and 189 (113 gold, 47 silver, and 29 bronze) medals in the senior and youth division respectively.

Region VII – Central Visayas did not lag behind as they finished second place for both senior and youth division with 195 medals (79 gold, 57 silver, and 59 bronze) for the senior division and 98 (55 gold, 17 silver, and 26 bronze) for the youth division. 

Both division varied in their third placers, with Region XII – SOCCSKSARGEN taking home 170 medals (46 gold, 61 silver, and 63 bronze) for senior division and Region V – Bicol Region for youth division with 152 medals (52 gold, 63 silver, and 37 bronze.)

22 sports and non-sports activities were organized for PRISAA 2023, with some programs held outside the sports complex.

Region V PRISAA President Edgar Balasta received his torch during the event’s closing program as PRISAA National Games 2024 was announced to be set in Bicol.
