ONGOING: Diskarte Virtual Exhibit

Stuck in the digital world with no physical gatherings and fun places to visit? No worries! For every problem, there is a solution. For now, we have a diskarte.

DISKARTE Visual Exhibit launched on November 21 and is set to be open until December 21, 2020. Presented by the Gallery of the Peninsula and the Archipelago, the virtual exhibit aims to showcase the continuity of art through the participating artists’ creative diskartes in a period characterized by hardships and challenges in support of Mindanao Art’s theme “Living Art in the New Landscape.”

Against all odds brought by the pandemic, the Ateneo Center for Culture and the Arts (ACCA) is not letting the trials and tribulations to mask up our innate creativity to portray life and strength through art. Travailing through challenges with anxiety and stress may have been our day-to-day struggle to survive and lodging away from it becomes elusive. Nevertheless, our warriors of art give us this light to escape from worries as they put their brushes and paint into action. These are Zamboanga City’s very own emerging and established visual artists’ diskarte of depicting their personal experiences of quarantine life.

Setting aside our physical presence, this exhibit is a must-visit where we can resonate with the visualized experience of living in this new landscape. The DISKARTE Virtual Exhibit opens its doors to all of us in the comforts of our homes at any available time.

DISKARTE is brought to life with the invitation of the Davao visual artist Kublai Millan, who is also the president of Lawig-Diwa Inc. In Mr. Millan’s call to join Mindanao Art 2020, he stated, “We are reaching out to as many gallerias and visual artists as possible to have a platform to share the art.” With the contribution from our impeccable artists Dominic Ian Cabatit, John Gualbert Caces, Neil Carandang, Lorna Fernandez, Ionee Bel Garcia, Jana Jumalon-Alano, Edwin Jumalon, Is Jumalon, Mijan Jumalon, Ceb Zabala, and ACCA director Kiko Miranda, the exhibit is a plethora of unique diskartes as they trudge the crisis of our time.

Let us take a break and go on a field trip to the virtual exhibition through bit.ly/Diskarte2020 and astonish ourselves with the works of Zamboanga’s pride.
