An AdZU alumnus spearheaded the Philippines’ first-ever university-built cube satellites that officially launched off to the International Space Station on Sunday, August 29, 2021, 3:14 pm (PST) aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket’s Dragon C208 as part of SpaceX Commercial Resupply Mission-23.
Engr. Renzo S. Wee is an alumnus of AdZU’s Electronics and Communications Engineering program. He led the eight-man team of researchers who designed and developed CubeSats Maya-3 and Maya-4.
The team is comprised of scholarship recipients under STAMINA4Space Program: Project 3 – Space Science and Technology Proliferation through University Partnerships (STeP-UP), a state-sponsored program funded by the Department of Science and Technology, implemented by the UP Diliman in partnership with the Kyushu Institute of Technology in Japan.
Engr. Wee contributed to the 1U Structure of the nanosatellites that shall provide image and video capture with its two five megapixels cameras, digital message relaying, data collection, GPS demonstration, and magnetic field measurement. All to be used for high-value industries development, disaster risk and management, environment and resource monitoring, and many others.
Both satellites are equipped with two deployable antennas, solar array panels, Global Positioning System (GPS) chip, and a lever switch according to STAMINA4SPACE.
The entire AdZU Community is proud of Engr. Wee to have accomplished such a feat in the name of science and service.
