Monsters come in all shapes and sizes, and as we grow up, each one of us comes to have a different perception of what it actually is. Whether it may be in a literal or figurative sense, we don’t run out of ideas. You see, when we were kids, we’d get scared of the monsters under our beds. Now, as some of us are older and are much more aware, we’re more concerned about the grinning monsters posing as national leaders—figuratively speaking, that is.
To find common ground on the description of a monster, let’s strip it of its fangs, matted fur, and gigantic feet. We are now left with its personality, behavior, and attitude. One would say that a true monster has a nasty personality, and the rest would easily agree with that regardless of its shape or size. This may suggest that the monster’s personality rots with tons of lies, lies that he, himself, might believe to be true. Making claims that are blatantly wrong and untrue, willfully manipulating what is real and distorting it into a false reality. What’s worse is that they do have some power to prey on people, feasting on their vulnerability and weaknesses.
Another would say that a monster thinks that everyone else speaking up is against them when in reality, all that was done is a simple broadcast of truth. And we can all agree that most monsters are very much in denial. Clawing their way to the top with nothing but a bad history disguised as the golden ages—just for them, that is. Because the ones that benefit from their actions are themselves, they prioritize their greed over everyone else.
However, there’s always a twist. Some monsters try to turn over a new leaf and change for the better, but the ones we see right now ask for peace and unity with heavy hints of manipulation and pretentious promises. There’s nothing wrong with change, we are all for seeing that come into fruition. What is wrong is choosing to ignore accountability, choosing to disregard evidence, choosing to twist historical facts into glorified feats, and delicately wrapping it with a bow of unity. But these monsters are real, hiding their insecurities with distasteful comebacks, and gaslighting people to fall for their tricks. The list keeps going but most of us are aware of it already—some of us just think differently and see things through a peephole. Food for thought, when there’s a past filled with crimes, a present filled with holes and inconsistencies, what would you think the future would look like if we just sit here and tolerate all of these?
We just went over a couple of things about what a true monster is, but I am confident that everyone had one person in mind. There’s nothing good about the traits mentioned, so it would be logical and best to avoid these types of people. Remember, thieving cowards don’t mix well with a progressive vision. With that said, the upcoming elections are a couple of months away, so let’s not forget, rather, let’s learn. Let’s stop this country from raising a red flag instead of the Philippine flag. We shouldn’t let our guards down and allow monsters to rule over our country—figuratively speaking, that is.
