AdZU, MSC hold MOA signing, 3M-worth turnover ceremony; grant five scholarships

Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) and Metro Stonerich Corporation (MSC) held their Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Signing and Turnover Ceremony for their Partnership on Civil Engineering, September 22, 2022, from 3:00-4:00 PM at the FWS Multi-Purpose Hall of Ateneo de Zamboanga University.

AdZU President Fr. Karel S. San Juan, SJ, Vice President of AdZU Higher Education Fr. Rene C. Tacastacas, SJ, MSC Finance Officer Hon. Lilibeth M. Nuño, and Assistant Vice-President of MSC Mindanao Engr. Marjorie S. Prado signed the MOA; Engr. Prado also officiated the turnover of the laboratory equipment to AdZU.

The above-mentioned partnership marks the commitment of MSC to the Civil Engineering program of AdZU by sponsoring the scholarship of five out of 66 pioneering Civil Engineering students, namely, Adrein Geuel A. Arguelles, Edzekiah T. Carpia, Janah Mar S. Mendezabal, Irish Ellaine B. Tubil, and Earl Justin T. Vengado. MSC also offered the scholars a position in the MSC organization after graduation.

Three-million pesos worth of laboratory equipment, which includes two units of theodolite, two units of total station, six units of auto level, 10 units of tripod, three units of range rod, and 10 units of surveyor’s tape measures and steel tape measures, is also among the pledge of MSC.

Fr. San Juan, called this momentous event an “industry-academe partnership,” wherein learning and instruction within the university are not separated from the real-world realities only provided by the industry and industry players, such as immersions and exposure to management and administration of enterprises and businesses in public and private sectors. He also considered it a commitment to “excellence and quality of instructional learning with the vision of being the best engineering program in the region.”

Fr. Tacastacas expressed his gratitude to the MSC, on behalf of AdZU, for its help in the establishment of the Civil Engineering program, for its trust in AdZU to generate “not just good civil engineers but hopefully better engineers in the Ignatian tradition,” and for its contribution to nation-building in “honing a younger generation of competent civil engineers.” He also challenged the pioneering batch of civil engineering students to maximize their available resources and opportunities – to be civil engineers who are both technically savvy and engineers for others and who give back to their communities and build a better society.

Among the attendees of the ceremony are MSC Project Engineer Nizhar Ysmael, MSC Quality Assurance and Quality Control Engineer Amhed Manuel, MSC Project Manager Jeric Sales, AdZU Vice President for Administration Fr. Richard Ella, AdZU administrators, and AdZU Civil Engineering students.
